Obituary of Bramwell L. Warren

Please share a memory of Bramwell to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
ROCHESTER, NY – October 11, 2024 Bramwell Lushington Warren was born on April 4th, 1939, in Duckenfield, a village in the parish of St. Thomas, Jamaica. He was born to father Mr. Vivian Warren and mother Ms. Ira Nesbeth. Bramwell went to both Davey Primary and Golden Grove Primary schools. He later learned the art of sugar boiling at the renowned Duckenfield Sugar Factory, but from a young age, his true passion was sewing. He honed his craft by working with a tailor in Duckenfield and furthered his skills by studying tailoring at a school in Kingston. Eventually, Bramwell established his own tailoring business, employing others and serving the community for many years. He earned great respect within the Duckenfield community, where friends nicknamed him “Pin”—a playful reference to both his tall, slender frame and his profession. On October 7, 1976, he married Valerie Warren and eventually immigrated to Rochester, New York, where he continued working as a tailor at the Hickey-Freeman Company, a manufacturer of suits for men and boys. He enjoyed a very successful career there and retired in 2004 after 27 years of dedicated service. In the States, Bramwell’s friends called him "Warren," and he was known for his helpful nature and love of staying busy. Even as he grew older, he remained an active member of Genesee Baptist Church and readily assisted family and friends with their tailoring needs. Additionally, he worked with the Rochester City School District for a few years. A lesser-known aspect of Bramwell’s life was his deep appreciation for the arts. After retiring, he pursued this passion by enrolling in an art class, which unexpectedly led to a rewarding opportunity at the Strong Museum of Play. There, he spent a decade contributing to the museum’s efforts to inspire young minds through creativity, eventually retiring from the position a few years ago. Bramwell Warren passed away peacefully on October 11th, 2024, surrounded by his family in Rochester, NY at 85 years old. He is survived by; his brother, Hugh Warren; mother of his children, Valerie Warren; his sons, Micheal (Devinn) and Jayson, and his daughter, Naomi. He had 4 grandchildren, Aiden, Quinn, Amarah and Aneka and 4 great grandchildren. Bramwell Warren will be dearly missed by his family members, friends and coworkers.
