Obituary of Gladys Rounds
Please share a memory of Gladys to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
ROCHESTER, NY – February 19, 2024
Gladys Rounds was born November 28, 1946 in Perry, Georgia to Cora Bell Rounds and James Felder. She attended training school in Houston County. She became a member of the Greater Union Church under the pastorate of Reverend G.T. Terry in 1965. That same year, Gladys relocated to Rochester, New York to live with her beloved aunt, Mildred Davidson.
Affectionately called “Bay Hot,” by family and friends, Gladys was a very talkative individual. She was a jokester and loved having fun. Her sense of humor was second to none, and she had a warm smile to match. Her personality lit up any room she entered. If you were feeling down, Gladys would find a way to lift your spirits.
There was also a talented side to Gladys. She enjoyed gardening, and truly possessed the proverbial “green thumb.” An excellent gardener, she genuinely loved her plants. Her talent in the kitchen was widely-known. If you wanted some “stand-out” collard greens, dressing or peach cobbler (to name a few of her specialty dishes), Gladys was the one to call.
Gladys had a genuine concern for the elderly and those who were ailing. This concern led her to being employed by The Friendly Home for over 12 years. She retired from that establishment.
Gladys transitioned her earthly life February 19, 2024. She is predeceased by: two daughters, Tonya and Jonda Rounds; her parents, Cora Bell Rounds and James Felder. She leaves to cherish her memory: four children: Mark Rounds, James Rounds, Turemail McCullough and April Rounds; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother and nine sisters: Lee Brown of Columbia, SC, Dannette Rounds, Willie Jean Rounds-Dean of Rochester, NY, Frances Felder, Gladys Felder, Jessie Mae, all of Perry, GA, Janie Felder of Boca Raton, FL, Mattie Mae Felder of Delray, FL, Louise Felder of West Palm Beach, FL and James Felder Jr. of Perry, GA. She also leaves a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, February 28 from 11:00 - 12:00 PM at The Latimer Chapel, 983 S. Plymouth Ave., Rochester, NY. The Funeral Service to Celebrate her life will immediately follow at 12:00 Noon with Rev. John Saunders officiating. Interment Riverside Cemetery.
