I just learned this morning that our friend Edwin Morrow Stone passed away peacefully on February 16th, 2024 in Rochester, N.Y.
What a fine man he was. I'm saddened to learn of this loss for his family and everyone who met him. He always elevated the space around him.
I posted a photo of Ed just three days ago here on Facebook. A rainbow finding him in Iceland. On another adventure tour where Ed joined us a few years ago in Patagonia/Argentina, yet another rainbow found Ed (photo below).
Thankfully, I'll always know where to look for him in the future.
R.I.P. Ed. We all adored you.

Our outdoor swims, whether at dawn in Canandaigua Lake, or Lake Ontario, will not be the same without our Ed, when I think about crossing Irondequoit Bay, I will always think of all of us swimming towards shore, all of the hooting and cheering, and I will think of Ed, joyous and triumphant making a bow. He will be so sorely missed. My deepest condolences.

Ed was the best. As a manager at Xerox's prestigious Wilson Center, he was often called upon to do unpleasant but necessary tasks. After a particularly difficult but unavoidable round of lay-offs he complained to me how he hated what he was doing. I pointed out to him that what he felt was the exactly the reason that he was so well liked and respected. He didn't enjoy pushing people around and making people miserable. Instead, he did what was necessary and his job. Like myself, many people depended on him to do his job. I didn't make him feel better that day, but I do know that I rather work for him than any number of other managers that enjoyed the power rush of pushing authority down other people's throats. He was humble, straight shooting and I'll miss his insights and quips. While I hadn't talked to him for many years, the day I heard of his passing, I felt an emptiness that will not be filled. The world is a poorer place since he is not here.

Uncle Eddie was absolutely awesome! He was one of a kind! He continuously showed up for me, encouraged me, supported me, and loved me over the last 39 years. I always appreciated his sage wisdom and kindness. When I relocated back to Rochester he “invited” me to join him for workouts even creating an entire regiment for me. When he started working with photography he took all of my headshots. When it was time for me to buy my first house, he accompanied me on all tours and helped me ask the right questions. I’ll miss his smile and laughter! I’ll miss his “Plllleeeeaaasssseeeee” response to my text messages. He was more than an uncle, he was more like a second dad.
