Obituary of John S. Griffin

ROCHESTER, NY – August 20, 2023
Entered eternal rest on August 20, 2023. Mr. Griffin was born March 17, 1935 in Batavia, NY, one of thirteen children born to Clayman and Lether Jackson Griffin. He married Della R. Bostic.
He is survived by; his loving and devoted wife, Della of 64 years; children, Pamela (Roy) Ruffin and Timothy Griffin. He also leaves a loving sister-in-law, Florine Bostic, devoted nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Griffin joined the United States Army and fought dutifully in the Korean War, was honorably discharged in 1956 and from there came to Rochester. He later joined V.F.W. Pennington-Moye Post 9251 where he was an active life member and later became Commander from 1972 – 1974. Mr. Griffin was also a member of the prestigious Buffalo Soldiers.
Mr. Griffin was employed by Bausch & Lomb as department supervisor for 37 years and after his retirement worked part-time as a crossing guard coordinator and then actual crossing guard for the City of Rochester until the occurrence of his illness. He was also a very dedicated and active member of Trinity Emmanuel Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder, Deacon and usher.
Mr. Griffin loved life and was such a loving, devoted and caring husband and father who will be deeply missed. He brought peace and harmony to all of those who knew him.
Viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, from 10am to 12pm followed by the funeral service at Trinity Emmanuel Presbyterian Church located at 9 Shelter Street, Rochester, New York 14611. Following the funeral, interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, 2650 Lake Avenue, Rochester, New York 14612.
