ROCHESTER, NY – May 26, 2023
CLIFTON HUMPHRIES WELLS was born February 1, 1943 in Noxapater, Mississippi where he attended Noxapater Vocational High School to the late Daisy Mae Fulwiley Triplett Wells and Humphries Wells. He was baptized at an early age at Mount Vernon Baptist Church of Noxapater, Mississippi. He resided in Chicago, Illinois and then moved to Rochester, New York in 1962.
Clifton was hardworking and retired from Eastman Kodak Company after more than 20 years of service. After retirement, he worked for Strong Memorial Hospital for several more years.
Clifton loved watching sports, such as baseball, basketball and football. In his earlier years, he enjoyed dancing; going to the horse races and was also on a bowling league. He loved spending time visiting with his family, especially during the holidays. He would also visit his hometown in Mississippi for family reunions.
Clifton was a fun loving person who enjoyed life and was always willing to help his family when needed. Everyone loved him as well.
Clifton departed from this life on May 26, 2023. He is predeceased by: (3) brothers, Willie B. Wells, Henry Junior Wells and David Wells, (5) sisters: Annie Pearl McDonald, Rosie Lee Holmes, Ethel Louis Wells, Mary Jane Latimer and Hattie Lee Wells.
He leaves to cherish in his memory: former wife Claudia J. Wells and stepson Gary Dixon of Grove City, OH; (2) sisters, Sally Ann Triplett of Indianola, Mississippi and Annie Mae Graham of Rochester, New York; (1) brother, Jimmie D. (Bessie) Wells of Louisville, Mississippi and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends and special niece, Letrecia Renee Graham of Rochester, New York.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, June 6 from 11:00 AM -12:00 PM at Aenon Baptist Church, 175 Genesee Street, Rochester, NY. The Funeral Service to Celebrate his life will immediately follow. Interment Grove Place Cemetery, Chili, NY.
