Obituary of Pastor James Edward Young Sr.

ROCHESTER, NY - May 21, 2022 - US Army Veteran - Pastor of Gethsemane Baptist Church in Syracuse.
Pastor James E. Young Sr., an anointed Pastor, Preacher, and Teacher of the Gospel, passed away peacefully on May 21st, 2022. He was born on October 1st, 1948 in Miami, Florida to the late John L. Young Sr. and late Florence Young. He was the 2nd oldest of 11 brothers and sisters. He faithfully served our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as the Founder and Pastor of the Gethsemane Baptist Church in Syracuse, NY for 19 years. Pastor Young taught the congregation that God is Love and to Love God and each other. Pastor Young also served as the Pastor of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church from 1996-2003.
Pastor Young enlisted in the US Army after graduating from A.L. Mebane High School in Alachua, FL and was stationed in numerous parts of the world with the latter being Vietnam where he served 2 tours of duty. He served for 37 years and became Senior Chief Warrant Officer in the latter part of his service.
Pastor Young earned a diploma in Biblical Studies from Colgate Rochester Divinity School and graduated with a B.S. Degree in Business Management/Economics from Empire State College in August 2014.
Pastor Young is predeceased by; his parents, John and Florence Young; two brothers, John and Jacob Young; and one sister, Jeanette Young
He is survived by; his loving wife of 50 years, Juanita Young; children, James and Stephanie Young; three brothers, Jeffery, Jeremiah (Bridget), and Joseph (Eva) Young; four sisters, Janet E. Dobiash-Schiller, Joycelen (Clarence) Williams, Joyce Stringer-Blanding, and Willie B. Bernard (Brownell); four sisters-in-law, Carolyn McKeiver, Deborah (Jerry) Gant, Loretta (James) Breaker, Gail King and a host of nieces, nephews, Gethsemane Baptist Church Family and friends.
