Mrs. Anderson was my cosmetology teacher at Edison Tech. She was one of my favorites!
It's because of her that I was able to get my Cosmetology License at the age of 17. I was the only one in my class that was able to get my license at such a young age and it almost didn't happen. On the day of my State Board I went to school, then in the evening I had to take my Practical exam way out somewhere. My classmate was supposed to be my model and she simply didn't show up to school. She never informed me or anything, just didn't show up. You can't take the practical part of the exam without a model and it's up to you to get your own model. To make matters even worse, without a model I would have to wait until the next year. I'm pretty sure I cried and Mrs. Anderson found a model for me, some student I didn't even know, someone whose hair I have never done before. It's really hard to find someone who would trust a 17 year old they didn't know in their hair especially with the haircut section of the test.
That wasn't the first time she rescued me, there was another time. In 10th grade shop, I decided that I wanted a Relaxer. I had really thick long hair. I told my classmate I wanted to use Super because I wanted my hair super straight. Mrs. Anderson heard me and said. "No, you can't use super, you have to use mild." I said no I want super because I want my hair super straight. She said, "you want to see all your hair in the drain?" She made the girl use mild and I was not happy that she was depriving me of super straight hair until the mild started burning. My scalp couldn't even handle the mild. If she wouldn't have stepped in I most definitely would have lost my hair.
Also, I was her little helper. She let me help her with the school dances that she used to organize, they were for students who were a grade above me. I had a friends who were upperclassmen and I was able to go because I helped.
I left Rochester and rarely go back. However, I have regrets about never telling Mrs. Anderson thank you. She never knew how grateful I was and never knew with my hair license I was able to put myself through college. Without that license I would have never made it through college.
She was a remarkable person and when I knew her she was Mrs. Anderson. I'm not surprised that she ended up Rev, Dr. Now that I think about she embodied what a Real Christian really is. She didn't go around telling people she was a Christian, her actions said it. I always said there was something about her now I know what it was. I was blessed from knowing her but sad that I didn't get the chance to tell her, and when I finally made time to do it, It's too late.

Please accept my deepest condolences for the loss of your mother. She was such a classy, lovely lady. I taught in the city when Betty was at Edison. She had the most infectious, distinctive laugh! I loved it. I remember shopping in a store and heard her laugh and followed it to find her. It was always a pleasure to see and talk to her. You all are in my prayers.

Mrs Anderson was an inspiration and an advisor. She was one of those teachers that gave the same advice to her students as she would give her kids. The thing that I like about her the most she never sugar coated she told it like it was in a respectable manner. I'm honored to have learned a few things from her for the short period of time at Edison Tech(shop class). Class of 85. Rest in peace you will be remembered for your inspiring words.
