
Obituary of Roger L. Miller
ROCHESTER, NY – April 24, 2026
Roger L. Miller, born November 1, 1944, in Andalusia, Alabama, was a dedicated scientist, community leader, and devoted family man. A graduate of Talladega College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry. Roger was initiated into Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. on September 23, 1963, at the Gamma Psi Chapter in Talladega, Alabama. Throughout his life, he remained closely connected to both the Gamma Psi and Theta Omicron Chapters.
Roger enjoyed a distinguished 43-year career at Xerox Corporation, where he served in Corporate Research, Product Engineering, Corporate Strategy, and Human Resources. He authored and co-authored numerous scientific and technical journal articles and was named on 12 U.S. patents—testament to his innovation, intellect, and lasting impact in his field.
A committed civic leader, Roger served on the boards of several community nonprofit organizations. He also chaired the Urban League’s Black Scholars Program Planning Committee for more than 25 years, helping to guide, mentor, and uplift generations of students. He served for many years at voting sites for the board of elections.
Within Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Roger served as Basileus and was twice honored as Omega Man of the Year. His many fraternity accolades also included the Superior Service Award and the Founders Award, reflecting his deep commitment to brotherhood and service.
Roger was also a pillar at Trinity Emmanuel Presbyterian Church. He joined TEPC as a member on October 2, 2002 and was ordained as an Elder in 2003.Roger didn’t join TEPC to sit and observe, he came in working. He worked on property, personnel, worship, men’s ministry, the choir, ushers, as well as the designated church shopper. You name it and it was Roger. He was elected commissioner to Presbytery and worked on several committees of Presbytery. He was clerk of session for TEPC.
Roger is predeceased by his stepdaughter, Lynne. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Miller, sister, Jessie Clark, his children from his first marriage to Vera Miller, Rogena, Rodney, and Veronica, stepchildren, Donna and Michele, his grandchildren, Donovan, Sydney and Michelle, as well as his nieces and nephews.
Roger is remembered by his family, fraternity brothers, colleagues, and a wide circle of community friends for his leadership, generosity, and unwavering commitment to service.
Family and friends may call Friday, May 8 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Trinity Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 9 Shelter Street, Rochester, NY. The Funeral Service to Celebrate his life will immediately follow at 12 Noon with Rev. Dr. Melany Silas-Chandler officiating. Interment at the convenience of the family.
