I grew up with Francine and her sister Kathleen in New Jersey. We met again years later in Rochester New York. A magnificent woman from a magnificent family.

Q: How did you meet Francine?
A: I met Ms. Conwell when I was a new teacher at Freddie Thomas Learning Center in Rochester, New York. She was more than my administrator — she was like a mother figure to me. She was simply amazing.
She had so many stories, so much wisdom, and always something to teach you. Even after she left Freddie Thomas and my family and I moved to Virginia, we stayed in touch. Anytime I was back in Rochester, we made sure to stop by and visit her.
I always looked forward to her holiday letters with updates on everything going on in her life, her daughters’ lives, and her grandchildren. She always had that big, bright smile, but she would also tell you what you needed to hear when necessary — and somehow still make you smile while doing it.
She was so thoughtful. One visit, I mentioned how much I loved one of her pieces of artwork. The next time I saw her, she had a piece of art just for me.
Just a beautiful soul…

For Moms
Hey Moms, it’s Jeff.
I know we spoke before you left this Earth, but I wanted to say a last goodbye, until we meet again. I want to thank you for all of your help with my girls when they were babies and through their younger years. You were a mighty help in our lives and a blessing to me as I nicknamed you Moms. For that name fit you as you accepted me into your life as your son. I will always treasure that and your sweet conversations of understanding and encouragement. I’ll always remember your laugh and the way we used to joke around the house. Those were some good times. So, I wanna say it’s time for you to rest now and we’ll meet again soon, but not too soon. I love you always, your son Jeff.

Francine has been an extended member of the Campbell family ever since ever. Her grandmother, Mrs. Jones, lived in our small NJ town and I remember Francine visiting there. She had an unforgettable laugh and incredible spirit. My fondest memory is when she visited me in 1988 — shortly after I moved to Buffalo NY to start a new position. Francine traveled from Rochester with her little dog to ensure that I was settling in and had what I needed. She was so thoughtful and giving. We will miss her dearly.
