Obituary of George Marshall Huff

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

ROCHESTER, NY – August 3, 2025

George Marshall Huff, son of Richard and Margarite Henry Huff, was born on March 3, 1938, in Apopka, Florida.

George began his education in Plymouth, Florida, before transferring to Phyllis Wheatley in Apopka. While there, he was introduced to the sport of golf at an early age and developed a strong interest in it. He received coaching from his Physical Education teacher, Mr. Booker T. Reddick, for whom he also occasionally served as  caddie.

He graduated from Hungerford High School in Eatonville, Florida, where he developed lifelong friendships and an appreciation for learning and knowledge.  His childhood was idyllic, and he would recall it fondly throughout his life.

After a brief stint at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, George relocated to Rochester, NY.  He had already spent many summers there as a youth, and wasted no time in reconnecting with old friends as he transitioned from the classroom to the workforce.

George began his career as a salesman with Kanes Furniture before transitioning into the transportation sector, where he was responsible for moving goods and services throughout Monroe and neighboring counties. He subsequently joined the Xerox Corporation as a technician in the Engineering Division, earning recognition for his significant contributions and strong problem-solving abilities that supported his team effectively. After more than 25 years of dedicated service, George retired in 1997.

Throughout his journey, George maintained a strong passion for golf and became an accomplished player through years of dedicated improvement. He valued the sport’s demand for mental focus, discipline, and quick decision-making under pressure—qualities that contribute to golf’s inherent challenges. As a member of both the Manhattan Golf Club and the Traveling Wedges Golf Club, he not only developed lasting friendships but also received numerous awards in recognition of his exceptional golfing abilities. These clubs fostered a supportive, team-oriented environment where George’s quiet demeanor complemented his active participation in collective achievements and experiences.

He later joined Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church  serving as an usher for several years under the pastorship of Rev.  Andrew N. Gibson.

George passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025. He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, pride in a job well done, and determination to achieve one’s goals. George is preceded in death by; his son, Brennan Marshall Huff, and his parents, Richard and Margarite Huff.  His memory will live on in the lives of his devoted wife, Tommie Jean Lane Huff; sons, Elton Lamar Huff and Shaun Lavane Huff; granddaughters, Heather Elise Huff and Brandi Sade Huff; great-grandchildren, Jihad Badi Perry, Jr., Q’shaun Hezekiah Penn, Keidence Zy’anna Heard, Asan Lamar Foster, Travis Rashaad Heard Jr; brothers-in-law, Walter Lane, Donnie Lane, Eric Lane and Kent Lane; nieces, Frenchie Rollins and Tolanda Thomas, and a host of close relatives and friends.
