Obituary of Michael Albert McGriff

May 6, 2025 Michael Albert McGriff was born on November 3, 1959, in Hamtramck, Michigan, to Pastor Emeritus Gerald L. McGriff Sr. and Evangelist Iris E. McGriff. He was the third son of 10 children—a miracle birth blessed by God. At the age of 13, he was filled with the Holy Spirit, marking the beginning of a lifelong journey of faith. Michael’s favorite scripture was Romans 8:1:“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk notafter the flesh, but after the Spirit.” He earned an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration and, at the age of 30, was ordained as a Deacon at Emmanuel Church of Jesus, Inc. A skilled masonry construction worker, Michael took pride in his craft — paving concrete floors and building houses and basements throughout Greece, New York. Michael was an avid swimmer, loved fishing, and playing his bass guitar. Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Pastor Emeritus Gerald L. McGriff Sr. and Evangelist Iris E. McGriff, as well as siblings Diane Tuckett, Gerald McGriff Jr., and Daniel McGriff. He leaves to cherish his memory his siblings: Irene McGriff, Deacon Darell McGriff, Judy McGriff, Arnold McGriff (Vanessa), Elizabeth McGriff, Pastor Iris V. McGriff, and his sister-in-law, Linda McGriff. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends who will miss him dearly. Friends may call Saturday, May 31 from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at Emmanuel Temple, 1 Seneca Parkway, Rochester, NY. The Funeral Service to Celebrate his life will immediately follow. Interment Riverside Cemetery, Rochester, NY.
