ROCHESTER, NY – May 6, 2025 Maggie Elizabeth Dozier born on October 31, 1927 in Andrews, South Carolina. The oldest of six (6) children was born to Charles and Nancy Rutledge. Predeceased by her mother, Nancy Rutledge, Father, Charles Rutledge; Son, William (“Bill”) Dozier; Brothers, Charles Rutledge, Sr., (“Compacee”); Richard Rutledge, (“Dick”). Sisters Nellie Rutledge and Bertie Rutledge. Maggie attended Rosemary High School. Maggie married her soulmate, Joseph Dozier, and they moved to Rochester, NY in 1953 and this is when the union of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dozier began and to that union four (4) children were born. A marriage that has lasted 61 years. Their love and partnership were the foundation of the family, filled with love, laughter and mutual respect. As the matriarch of the family Maggie was the heart & soul of everything. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother. Her family was the center of her world. Her unwavering faith was another cornerstone of her life. She was a long-standing member of New Bethel CME Church. Offering support to her community until she could no longer do so. Maggie had many passions, including a deep love for gardening, where she found peace and happiness in nurturing her plants. She was an exceptional cook, and her family will always remember the delicious meals she prepared during the holidays. With a flair for fashion, Maggie was never without the perfect accessory – whether it was a scarf, shoes, handbags, jewelry or her beautiful hats, she loved to accessorize and always looked elegant and classy. She was a vivid shopper, often watching QVC for the latest deals and unique finds. Shopping was one of her favorite past times. She loved a good sale. She also had a charming sarcastic way about herself yet had the ability to make everyone feel welcome. Her love of watching soaps in earlier years and game shows brought her joy as well. She cherished the long conversations she shared with family and friends, often spending hours on the phone catching up and offering words of wisdom and support. These talks were one of her favorite ways to stay connected with those she loved. She had a witty way of doing things and had a keen eye (possessing a heightened ability to notice details and nuances that others might miss) at best. She really enjoyed sharing moments with family and friends. She entered into rest on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. She is predeceased by; her husband, Joseph Dozier.
