ROCHESTER, NY – January 31, 2025 Betty L. Lea was born on May 19, 1940 in Albany, GA and passed away on January 31, 2025 in Rochester, NY. Betty, a Christian and Aenon Baptist church member, loved God, her family, retirement, fishing, cooking, and watching her shows. While employed at Strong Hospital she helped founded Local 1199 (SEIU). She is predeceased by her parents Odessa Brown and George Smothers, a host of aunts, uncles, and beloved siblings. She is survived by one sister, Hattie Mae Pickle of Albany, GA; her children Zola Brown, Sandra Howard (Terry), Randall Brown, and Norman Brown (Kim); special daughters Lillian Wright and Valerie Edwards, 7 grandchildren, 2 honorary grand children, 10 great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, family members, and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Aenon Missionary Baptist Church, 175 Genesee St. Rochester, NY 14611. The wake starts at 10am followed by the funeral at 12pm. Interment is at the historic Mt. Hope Cemetary. If sending flowers, please note that the church is closed Friday, 2/14.
